Tips for Choosing the Best La Mirada Newborn Photographer for Your Family

Are you considering newborn photography but have some questions?

If you're a new parent, you're probably overwhelmed with all the decisions you need to make.

Newborn photography doesn't have to be one of them.

Let me guide you through the process and provide you with all the information you need to capture the early moments of your baby's life.

Let's dive into some of the most common questions about newborn photography.

“What should I look for when hiring a newborn photographer?”

It's important to choose a photographer who specializes in newborn photography and has experience working with infants. I have over 15 years of experience working with newborns, other than my own (I started my photography business in 2008). Yearly I am going to various trainings to learn more skills and hone my craft so that our time together will not only be productive but smooth and enjoyable. I'm dedicated to providing a comfortable and safe experience for you and your baby. I understand the importance of capturing these early moments, and I love to be able to create beautiful, authentic and intimate memories that you'll cherish for years to come.

“What can I expect during a newborn photography session?”

During a newborn photography session, I'll work to create a comfortable and safe environment for your baby, and guide you through the posing process. You can include your family members in the photos, and I encourage parents and siblings to participate in this special moment. I always encourage the grandparents to be part of this session. I love being able to document the generations in your family.

To capture the best moments, it's important to schedule your newborn photography session as early as possible, ideally within the first two weeks of your baby's life. I recommend booking your session while you're in your 2nd trimester so that I can make sure to save space in my calendar for your little love. That doesn't mean you can't inquire later in your pregnancy or even after baby has already arrived, I just feel bad when I can't document these moments for you if my schedule is already full.

“Do I need to bring anything?”

You don't need to bring anything to the session because I bring everything to you. I only offer In Home Newborn sessions which means you don't have to worry about packing anything up and possibly forgetting that special blanket from Grandma. I bring my props, backdrops, blankets, wraps and baskets. If there is anything special you'd like me to incorporate in some of the photos go ahead and set it out.

One reason I really love to go to my clients instead of them coming to me is 1) Convenience! I would totally prefer someone coming to me after having a newborn than having to stress about getting out the door on time. 2) I want mama to have an opportunity to practice a little self care while I'm wrapping, soothing and photographing her new baby. Mama has time to get something to eat, do her hair and makeup and take a little breather before it's her turn to be in some photos with her little one.

“When will I get my photos?”

After the session, you'll receive a preview gallery to choose all your favorite images you'd like to keep. Once you've finalized your selection, you can expect to receive the final edited photos and products within 4-6 weeks. I offer a range of packages that include both digital files and prints as well as canvases and heirloom albums. I'm happy to work with you to create a customized package that meets your specific needs.

“How much does newborn photography cost?”

Newborn photography can range from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on the package (this is including the session). I know this might seem like a significant investment, but keep in mind that newborn photography is a specialized service that requires a lot of time, effort, and equipment. Safety is really my number one priority as well as respecting your newborn as an individual. So if there is a pose we're trying to get and they refuse, I will try but I'm not going to push it because it obviously makes them uncomfortable. I have been doing this for some time to know when a cry is uncomfortable verses a cry that is tired or doesn't want to be bothered.

So, there you have it! Newborn photography is a wonderful way to capture the early moments of your baby's life and I do my best to take care of all the details, so all you have to do is pre-book your newborn session and then let me know once you've had your baby!
